We took a short vacation in Austin, Texas while back. Last time we were in Austin, we stayed at a cheap ol’motel (we were there for a week, so couldn’t afford anything but). We stayed at a hotel we always wanted to stay at this time: Hotel San Jose.
Hotel San Jose is located in the heart of SoCo, a neighborhood located South of Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas. We just love this area filled with eclectic shops, restaurants, art venues, and food trucks!
According to the hotel website, the San Jose was once an “ultramodern” motor court that was built in 1936. It has been transformed into a 40 room urban bungalow-style hotel. The site also mentions “Dogs are always welcome” – okay, I am not bringing my dogs this time around, but this is definitely my kind of hotel… We stayed in a standard “220 square feet queen bed private bath Texas reclaimed pine writing surface with a flat screen television” room.
We arrived a little bit before the check-in time, but the room was already available. The staff was nice and friendly. Our room was located towards the back of the property (away from the Congress Avenue). The room was small, but cozy, simple and clean – and I just adore the minimalist decoration!
We wanted to relax in our room, but our schedule was tight. We headed out to venture SoCo and then off to see Belle & Sebastian at the ACL Live! We had to check out early to head home (8-hour drive!) next morning, so we couldn’t enjoy other amenities like the courtyard lounge and pool.
We will definitely stay at the Hotel San Jose again next time we are in Austin – we give it five stars!!!
