Keela’s health started to decline in July of 2013. Her vet was searching for a new battle plan when she quit responding to chemotherapy (cytosine and lomustine). However when her kidneys started to fail, we knew it was time to let her go – she passed very peacefully on the morning of July 20th, 2013.
I have been moping and crying ever since, but life goes on. I needed to find an urn for her ashes. The pet crematoria had close to 100 urn choices, but I still couldn’t find “the one” – so her ashes had been sitting in a bag, waiting to be properly rested.
I googled “modern pet urn” and there it was – a minimal, modern, custom urn by Shelley Martin at “vitrifiedstudio” on Esty. Her porcelain clay custom pet urns are available in three sizes with glaze choices of 12 colors (as of March 2, 2014). She can impress the name of your pet, dates, and/or a quote on the urn.
Shelley is the maker/designer/owner of vitrifiedstudio, a small home based ceramics studio located in Portland Oregon. You can find her current and complete line of ceramics on her webiste (www.vitrifiedstudio.com). Her etsy shop features samples, seconds, custom pet urns, and other select work not found in the current vitrifiedstudio line can be purchased. She generously offers 15% off for facebook fans (for the facebook fan code, see the about section at https://www.facebook.com/vitrifiedstudio) or instagram fans (for the instagram fan code see the vitrifiedstudio instagram profile page at http://instagram.com/vitrifiedstudio).
I ordered a medium urn with “dark gray” glaze. The urn arrived in about two weeks – I was very happy with this one of a kind, modern, minimal, well made custome urn!
Keela’s urn sits on my nightstand, right next to where she slept every night.
